ST RITA'S DAY CELEBRATIONS
On Wednesday 22nd May we will be celebrating our special Feast Day for St Rita. This year we will welcoming Fr Peter Wieneke OSA (Order of St Augustine) to celebrate a whole school mass and all are welcome. We will also be welcoming and working throughout the day with some talented musicians and songwriters within Brisbane Catholic Education who will be helping us to write lyrics and music for a new school song. Stay tuned!

ST RITA'S WOOL CLUB
A great initiative presented at our School Parent Network last week was to introduce a weekly "Wool Club". This will be an opportunity for students from Year 3 to 7 to make and create with wool and other materials, learning age old skills such as knitting, weaving, macramé … We hope to encourage some of the parish folk to join with the children and lead learning by sharing talents in these timeless skills.

PARENT PORTAL COMING SOON!
Next Semester, St Rita’s will launch an exciting Parent Portal space.  In this space you will have access to school calendars, student notes, announcements,  library system etc.  To access this, we need all families, during the next few weeks, to register your email address (using the button on the left under Quick Links).  Please include your family and student name/s and email address.  We will then be in touch with a temporary password to activate your access.  Thank you to the School Board and SPN for their support in the development of this space.

"GUERILLA TACTICS FOR PARENTS" – Andrew Fuller
This is a co-sponsored initiative between St Mary MacKillop, St Rita's SPN and Carmel College. The date is 6.30pm on Thursday 16th May held at St MMK at Birkdale. Click here for more information. The evening promises to be informative and enlightening in building resilience in our children.

YEAR 6 SCHOOL PARISH MASS - Thursday 16th May
On the 16th May our year 6 children will be celebrating Mass with the Parish at 9:00 am. You are most welcome to join as we celebrate community in Eucharist together. The Parishioners are always appreciative of attending Mass together with our children.

WHOLE SCHOOL PARISH MASS - Sunday 19th May
We will commence our Faith and Friendship Day 19th May with a School Parish Mass. Please let me know if you would like to be involved in any readings of the Word, welcoming etc. We hope to see you there as we celebrate as a faith filled community.

Woolies Earn & LearnVOLUNTEER PACKAGE
We would not be without our many volunteers in classrooms, tuckshop, library and other aspects of school life. This week's newsletter outlines our legal requirements for volunteers within the school setting. Please read this carefully and partake in the volunteer induction training provided in the Volunteers section of our website.  If you can't download from the website, packages will also be available from the school office.

Alternatively, or in addition, we are offering an afternoon information session on Thursday 2nd May between 3.30 and 4.30pm in the Unitas Centre. Child minding will be available. This will be an opportunity to be thanked for your contribution, meet with the school leadership team and step through this important information regarding student protection.

NAPLAN

Yes, it's that time of the school year when our Year 3s (for the first time), Year 5 and Year 7 students participate in the Numeracy and Literacy national testing program. St Rita's school results demonstrate higher than expected progress showing improvement and growth as our students move through these years of schooling. We encourage all to do their best, remembering it is a point in time measure that is most useful to track whole school progress. So, early to bed and a good breakfast with a word or two of encouragement will be most helpful this week.

ST RITA'S SCHOOL SONG

To continue to nurture our Augustinian and St Rita spirit, this St Rita's Day (22nd May), we are starting the process of developing a school song. Our hope is that as many people as possible in our community have input into its development. Please let us know if you have skills in this area and/or key words that for you capture our St Rita's spirit.

Access to the program is encouraged – particularly in the mornings. We have seen a growing number of students arriving too early and sitting for a long time before school begins. The cost is affordable and your children will have a great start to their day.
