The MET East Regional semi-final was played on Friday afternoon with St Rita's taking on Rochedale State School in a thrilling end-to-end contest.
Rochedale made a fast start, opening the scoring early in the match. St Rita's responded immediately, with Emmanuel curling a direct corner into the back of the net to level the scores in spectacular fashion.
Both sides continued to create chances in an entertaining first half, but it was Rochdale who struck just before the halftime whistle to take a narrow 2–1 lead into the break.
St Rita's came out firing in the second half and continued to take the game to Rochdale. The boys were rewarded for their attacking intent when Ethan found the back of the net to bring St Rita's within one goal and keep the contest alive.
Despite St Rita's relentless pressure, Rochdale capitalised on their chances and added two second-half goals to secure a hard-fought 4–2 victory. Between the posts, Blake was simply outstanding producing a string of remarkable saves throughout the match to keep St Rita's in the contest and giving his teammates every chance until the final whistle.
Although the result brought our MET East Regional Playoff campaign to an end, the boys can be incredibly proud of their efforts throughout the competition.
They displayed outstanding resilience, teamwork and determination against quality opposition and represented St Rita's with great pride.
